Wood and ABS can both support an illuminated acrylic or crystal display, but they create different visual and manufacturing directions. Select the material around the finished product and market position rather than treating the housing as a cosmetic detail.

Wood creates a material-led presentation

A wood base can support a warm, natural or premium gift direction. Grain and tone are part of the appearance, so the approved sample should establish the expected visual range rather than imply that every piece will look identical. Engraving and surface finishing should be reviewed on the selected material.

ABS supports a controlled molded form

An ABS housing can provide repeatable external geometry and a wide range of molded structural features. Finish, color and texture still depend on the selected platform and production method. A new housing shape or changed internal layout may require tooling rather than a simple color change.

Compare the complete electronics package

Material alone does not determine the power or light behavior. Confirm the LEDs, controller, cable, battery or charging system and internal service access for the exact base. A wood and ABS model with similar external size can still use different internal construction.

Plan packaging around the surface

Protect the visible finish from rubbing and movement. If the base ships with an acrylic or crystal insert, separate the components so hard edges do not mark the housing. Retail copy should describe the approved material accurately and avoid a generic “wood look” or “solid wood” statement unless it matches the final product.

Use current products as references

Compare the USB beech wood acrylic lamp base, battery-powered beech wood base and classic round ABS base. Their standard configurations show different material and power starting points; final customization remains project-specific.
